SSWHA AGM Club Report
Thursday, 23 October 2008
Cronulla RSL Hockey Club enjoyed a fine season in 2008 with three sub junior teams, four junior teams and two senior teams playing in the SSWHA competitions and RSL 1 competing in the inaugural South East Premier League.
The RSL 1 team was weakened by several of last years first grade being unavailable because of overseas travel and pregnancies. A serious injury to a player at Kyeemagh early in the season caused further disruption resulting in the team not progressing past the minor semi final. On the silver lining side of the cloud, because of the above we were able to give several of our younger players exposure to the strong SEPL competition.
The Club was delighted to see the other two senior teams finish as Premiers in respectively 2B and third grade in the Sutherland Competition. Both teams showed great dedication in playing and training, and we were especially pleased to see the RSL Blues side win 2B with a side containing six players who had come through our junior ranks.
In juniors sides were entered in 2,3,4 grade and finished as Premiers in each competition, the only team that did not win the comp was our second very young fourth grade team that played with great heart all year though consistently outgunned by older opposition
The Domino Minkeys, 7B Rascals, 7B Speed Demons & 7A All Stars all had a sucessful season. Many of these young players were playing for the first time and had a great time in their competitions.
We would like to congratulate Beth Lowe and Craig Hoban the coaches of the successful junior teams and once again to Craig who was voted our Clubman of the year. Also thanks to Donna Sheather, Chris Hagan, Les Robertson, Carolyn Woods and Corrine Hoban who did most of our umpiring during the year with a special mention to Corrine who obtained her “C” badge towards the end of the season.
