RSL 1 Seni vs UNSW (LOSS 1-4)
Wednesday, 29 October 2008 (Round 31)
RSL 1st Grade Team report
This year was not without it’s challenges for the RSL 1st grade side. We started this year without a coach and minus of few of our players from past years. Kim was asked to coach and thankfully she agreed. Jenni’s early broken ankle, some holidays and other things often made fielding a team difficult, and the few of us trying to get the team on the field for the week (Kim, Sherryl, Eddie, Jodie and sometimes others) were almost exhausted before taking the field! Training was pretty standard for RSL 1st grade in the past few years, that is we had it’s usual ups and downs re attendance with a few core trainers turning up most weeks, but Kim still managed to run worthwhile sessions.
Now that may sound a little negative but that makes what we did achieve much more significant. This year was a combined competition with SSWHA and ED, it was an increase in teams, and the standard was consistently high, certainly no easy games. Early on in the season we were leading the competition and for a significant part we were in the top 2. We needed to win a few games close to the end to get into the semi’s and managed to get up for those games. We were beaten pretty convincingly in the semi’s final but in the end we did pretty get there! Certainly provides some room for improvement next year though!
Many weeks we relied on several of the great girls from 2nd and 3rd grade to help us field a team, they did a fantastic job, really put their hearts into it and I hope they know we really appreciated them playing. It was great to see both those teams win their competitions!
We are also thankful to Kim for coaching and Eddie for trying to keep us on the field and all those that do their bit to keep the RSL club operating.
Enjoy your Summer and see you next season.
From RSL 1st Grade.
